Join us as we focus on one of the most significant issues facing Atlanta today: affordable housing. While neighborhood revitalization and projects like the Beltline have attracted people and businesses, these changes have also affected housing and rental prices, threatening to displace existing residents and prevent those with lower incomes from experiencing the benefits of renewal.
According to some estimates, rents in the city are growing three times faster than the national median, and housing prices have jumped by 8 percent in the past year – compared to a national average of 4.9 percent.
What can be done to ensure Atlanta remains a place where everyone can afford to live? What role can grantmakers play? We’ll explore these questions and more with a panel representing both the nonprofit and public sectors. Our speakers include:
- James Alexander, President, Mercy Housing Southeast
- Mike Carnathan, Head of Market Research and Analytics, Atlanta Regional Commission
- Bruce Deel, Founder and President, City of Refuge
- Cheryl Strickland, Managing Director of Real Estate, Westside Future Fund
