SECF is excited to return to one of our members’ favorite venues, the Omni Grove Park Inn, in one of the region’s most dynamic and beautiful cities: Asheville, North Carolina.

Your in-person Annual Meeting registration will guarantee you’re in the room for all our general sessions, breakouts, meals and receptions. Plus, you’ll have countless opportunities to connect with peers and experts from the Southeast and beyond!

Update: Asheville Is Booked, But You Have Options

In a typical year, the Annual Meeting is easily able to meet our goals of accommodating all people who wish to attend and hosting an audience that reflects the full diversity of our membership – all types and sizes of foundations and people of all roles, including staff and trustees.

However, arrangements for this year’s meeting were confirmed at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic required a high level of caution and discretion. As a result, our paid attendance this year is limited to about 300 people. We reached capacity on June 24 and will no longer be accepting in-person registrations.

We are very excited to offer a virtual Annual Meeting that will feature all keynote, plenary and breakout sessions streamed live! This experience will build on the success of last year’s Annual Meeting, which was well-received by the hundreds of members who participated! You can learn more about the online Annual Meeting here.

You also have the option of joining a waitlist to attend in person is spots open up. Click here to add your name. You can still register for the virtual meeting now – we can transfer your registration over if a place for you in Asheville opens up.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work to bring you an Annual Meeting that is open to as many people as possible!

Health & Safety FAQ:

The health and safety of our attendees, staff and contracted support is our top priority. The 52nd Annual Meeting is designed with this in mind. All Annual Meeting registrants will be required to present either proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test from the past 48 hours before attending any Annual Meeting functions. Speakers and staff will also be subject to this requirement. We are currently exploring several options for verifying this information on-site. Anyone who cannot present this information will be directed to testing options.

In addition to the policies of the Grove Park Inn, we will comply with the latest guidelines set by the CDC, the State of North Carolina, Buncombe County and the City of Asheville. Currently, this means that masks are strongly encouraged for all attendees, regardless of vaccination status, while indoors, and that social distancing should be maintained at all times. Masks may be removed only for eating or drinking while seated. For outdoor events, masks will not be required unless social distancing cannot be maintained (e.g. entering and exiting a space, standing in a buffet line, etc.).

SECF will provide access to hand sanitizer and disposable masks. However, we encourage attendees to avoid personal contact, such as handshakes, to minimize the spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

Between our host hotel, the Grove Park Inn, and our overflow hotel, the Renaissance Asheville, we have secured enough rooms for the maximum number of conference attendees. Complimentary shuttle service between the Renaissance and Grove Park Inn will be provided throughout the Annual Meeting.

There are currently no special restrictions on the number of people allowed in the Grove Park Inn’s ballrooms or conference rooms. All in-person attendees will have normal access to these spaces, though attendance may be capped at individual sessions to comply with fire codes.

All attendees will be required each day to complete a brief questionnaire asking whether they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone who has the virus. We will also perform a temperature check using a forehead thermometer. Depending on the results of the questionnaire and your temperature, you may not be allowed to attend.

In addition to the questionnaire, our event registration process will require that, in order to attend, you agree to hold harmless SECF, its vendors or our venues in the event of a COVID-19 diagnosis following the event.

We encourage all our attendees to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. All adult Americans are now eligible to be vaccinated. Visit the CDC’s Vaccines.gov site to learn more about vaccinations and to find vaccination sites near you.

Contact the SECF staff to let them know you will be unable to attend, and we will be happy to issue you a full refund. You can also transfer your registration to another person within your organization at no extra charge.

SECF’s Code of Conduct

The Southeastern Council of Foundations is composed of a broad and diverse membership of grantmakers. At our core, we are a community of grantmakers connecting with each other to improve the practice of grantmaking in the Southeast.

At our meetings and events, we also welcome visitors from other organizations – which are not members – that participate as presenters or participants. SECF strives to create a comfortable place for all Members, visitors, and others engaged in philanthropy to exchange experiences and ideas and engage in conversations that are welcoming and of benefit to all participants. As such, SECF is not a venue for grant seekers, fundraisers, or other types of charitable solicitations during any of its meetings, events or through its publications nor is it an appropriate venue to conduct political activities. We ask that our Members and visitors not solicit at SECF-sponsored events or programs and that Members and visitors not use information obtained through their SECF membership or participation in SECF events for charitable, business or other solicitations outside of those events.
