Atlanta Foundations Forum

Atlanta Foundations Forum

The Atlanta Foundations Forum is an informal group of funders in metro Atlanta who regularly gather to discuss ideas, innovations, issues and best practices that influence grantmaking in and around the city.

Atlanta Foundations Forum events often feature foundation leaders and grantees discussing their partnerships, as well as community leaders connected to the causes supported by philanthropy.

The Forum is led by a volunteer SECF member who serves as a convener and recruits participating foundations to host each meeting. The host and convener select the topic and speakers. Atlanta Foundations Forum meetings and events are open to all trustees and staff of grantmaking organizations in the metro Atlanta region.

What has the Atlanta Foundations Forum been talking about lately?

How philanthropy is helping to connect Atlantans of all ages to nature: Attendees explored the cross-sector benefits of connecting Atlantans, especially youth and underserved communities, to nature and the role of philanthropy. In addition to hearing from representatives of local nonprofits, participants were able to tour the Bellwood Quarry, which will be transformed into Westside Reservoir Park – the biggest greenspace in Atlanta upon completion.

The future of mobility in Atlanta: Technologies such as electric vehicles, autonomous cars and technology-enabled “mobility on demand” are dramatically changing the transportation sector. At the same time, low-tech mobility options such as putting one foot in front of the other and bicycling are gaining momentum as we work to create a network of paths and trails in Atlanta. These issues powered a conversation about the future of mobility in the city and featured local leaders as well as national experts.

Going to bat for financial literacy: Held at SunTrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, this event focused on the partnership between the team’s charitable arm and SunTrust, which worked together to a develop a sports-themed financial literacy curriculum for high school students. Together, the foundations saw a need to address financial literacy because only half of Americans report feeling financially secure.
