Member Webinar: Talent-Investing
as a Grantmaking Strategy

Presented in partnership with Fund the People

Tuesday, March 20, 2018 • 11:00am–12:00pm (ET)

People are nonprofit organizations’ greatest assets – and these people will always need support to successfully do their work. As a funder, how do you know which investments will have the greatest impact and provide the support needed for your grantees to thrive?

No matter what causes or communities your foundation seeks to support, one of the most effective grantmaking strategies is to invest in the staff of your grantees. When you intentionally deploy resources to build the support systems that enable staff development, you’re able to advance equity and inclusion, performance, impact, and sustainability at the individual, organizational, and field levels.

Fund the People is the national campaign to maximize investment in the nonprofit workforce. Join Rusty Stahl, the group’s founder, president and CEO, as he introduces the exciting ideas and practices of talent-investing and shares practical resources that you can use to advance your mission by investing in grantee staff.

About the Speaker: Rusty Stahl is president and CEO of Fund the People, the campaign to maximize investment in America’s nonprofit workforce. He founded the organization in 2014 out of his passion for supporting the amazing and diverse leaders who serve our communities through nonprofit careers. Prior to founding Fund the People, Rusty founded and served as executive director of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP), the professional association of young and new foundation professionals. During his 10-year tenure, he helped to educate and train the next generation of philanthropic leaders, and to shape a more diverse, multi-generational foundation field. A longtime friend of SECF, Rusty also previously served as a program associate at the Ford Foundation. He holds an M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University.

About Fund the People: Fund the People is the campaign to maximize investment in America’s nonprofit workforce. Toward that end, the group offers innovative ideas, research, educational programs, and practical tools. This work is driven by an experienced corps of staff and consultants based all over the U.S., and informed by an Advisory Council of funders, nonprofits, associations, leadership development experts, and scholars – including SECF members and staff. Founded in 2014, Fund the People is supported by philanthropies including the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Kresge Foundation.
